ERP and manufacturing
A simpler Odoo alternative for small contractors
Odoo is a modular ERP you assemble. Community is free if you host and maintain it. Enterprise is a per-user subscription, often cited around $30 to $40 a user a month before a partner builds the database you actually wanted. The promise is that any app can be installed. The cost is the project.
Small contractors do not want a toolkit. They want takeoff, a BOM, a schedule, a warehouse, a service board, and a draw. TrueScope is the lite, already-shaped version of that stack. Modules turn on and off, but they are contractor modules, not a blank ERP you have to design.

What Odoo is built to do
Odoo sells apps: accounting, inventory, manufacturing, projects, website, and dozens more. Nothing in the box is a blueprint takeoff. Construction companies usually pay a partner to bend projects and inventory into a job cost.
- Studio customization and a developer when the screen is wrong
- Accounting depth that still needs an accountant to configure taxes and accounts
- Community hosting, upgrades, and backups that become your IT job
The lighter version for a small contractor
TrueScope includes the contractor set: visual takeoff, multi-level BOM, bin inventory, field scheduling, daily logs, and progress billing. You skip the app store. If a module does not match the trade, you hide it instead of uninstalling a half-configured Odoo app.
Odoo’s flexibility is supposed to handle mixed businesses, and it can, after someone models them. A company that estimates, fabricates, and dispatches is the normal TrueScope customer, not a custom module. That is the difference between a platform and a product.
Odoo’s mobile story depends on which apps the partner turned on. TrueScope is mobile-first on day one, including offline, on iPhone, Android, and a Mac in the office.
Odoo Enterprise is often the visible per-user fee. The partner project is the real cost. TrueScope is $20 per full user with the contractor modules included and no implementation contract. Prices change. Check the vendor before you buy.

Questions small contractors ask
Is TrueScope simpler than Odoo for a contractor?
Yes. Odoo can be configured to resemble a contractor system. TrueScope already is one: takeoff, shop, stock, field, and billing, with modules you hide instead of build.
Is the free Odoo edition enough?
Community is free software and a hosting project. Most small contractors underestimate the time. TrueScope’s price is the subscription, not your evenings.
Can I still connect other tools?
Yes. A REST API covers the core records if something outside, including an accountant’s process, needs the data.
$20 a full user. Every module.
Field contributors are $5. Mac, phone, and offline included.
