ERP and manufacturing

A simpler NetSuite alternative for small contractors

NetSuite is Oracle’s cloud ERP. It runs multi-subsidiary companies, deep financials, and a long list of modules that a partner implements. First-year cost is often quoted in the tens of thousands before the business sees a purchase order. That is the right class of system for a company with a controller and a rollout plan.

A small contractor needs a lite ERP: customers, estimates, stock, purchasing, job cost, and an invoice that matches the work. TrueScope is that narrower system, already shaped for takeoff, fabrication, projects, and field service. You do not hire an implementation partner to turn it on.

What NetSuite is built to do

NetSuite is a general ledger and operating system for mid-market and larger companies. Manufacturing, inventory, and projects are available, and each one is configured. The flexibility is the implementation.

  • Multi-entity consolidation, global tax, and audit-grade financials
  • Saved searches, scripts, and a partner ecosystem
  • A rollout measured in months and a quote measured in tens of thousands a year

The lighter version for a small contractor

TrueScope bookkeeping is single-entry on purpose, with schedule of values, AIA-style progress billing, retainage, vendor bills, and job cost a non-accountant can run. Inventory, purchasing, and work orders sit on the same records. You skip the ERP features a 15-person shop will never open.

NetSuite can be configured for almost any company, which is why the project is long. Contractors are a mix of estimator, shop, warehouse, and field. TrueScope already is that mix. You turn modules off instead of paying someone to build them.

NetSuite has mobile pieces after the suite is live. TrueScope starts on the phone and the Mac: takeoff, dispatch, and logs in the field, books in the office, offline when the site is dead.

NetSuite is quote-only. Public roundups still describe annual costs starting around $30,000 plus implementation. TrueScope is $20 per full user per month. Prices change. Check the vendor before you buy.

Questions small contractors ask

Is TrueScope a NetSuite alternative for a small fab shop?

Yes for estimates, inventory, purchasing, multi-level BOM, job cost, and invoicing. It is not a multi-subsidiary financial system and it will not replace a controller’s consolidation workbook.

How long does it take to start?

There is no implementation project. You turn on the modules that match the trade and bring one live job across before you migrate everything.

Can an accountant still export?

The books are in the app, and the API can read invoices, payments, and the ledger if an outside accountant wants the activity.

$20 a full user. Every module.

Field contributors are $5. Mac, phone, and offline included.
