Projects and bidding

A Procore alternative for small contractors

Procore runs large construction projects: drawings, RFIs, submittals, photos, and financials for general contractors and the subs they pull onto the platform. Pricing is a custom annual fee tied to construction volume. It is powerful, and it is built for a project office.

A small specialty contractor often gets invited into someone else’s Procore and still has to run their own company somewhere else. TrueScope is the lighter project system for that company: daily logs, Gantt schedules, QR site check-in, trade messaging, takeoff, shop work, and progress billing. You are not buying a GC platform to track your own crew.

What Procore is built to do

Procore is project management at general-contractor scale. Unlimited users are part of the pitch because the fee follows volume, not headcount. The feature depth assumes RFIs, submittal chains, and a project engineer.

  • RFI and submittal workflows built for multi-prime jobs
  • Financial tools aimed at construction volume, not a 12-person shop
  • A portfolio the owner or GC standardizes on, which a sub cannot replace

The lighter version for a small contractor

Small contractors need to know who was on site, what happened today, whether the drawing changed, and what is safe to bill. TrueScope projects cover QR attendance, headcount, daily logs with photos, messaging with PDFs, and a schedule. The advanced GC stack stays on the GC’s system when a contract requires it.

Procore does not run a fabrication shop or a service board. Subs who fabricate in the morning and install in the afternoon keep a second ERP anyway. TrueScope puts the project, the BOM, the warehouse, and the service call on one record.

Both products have mobile apps. TrueScope is built mobile-first for the person doing the work, including offline logs and bids when the site has no signal, on a phone, tablet, or Mac. You do not need a project engineer to translate the day into the system.

Procore does not publish a list price. It is quoted from construction volume and is aimed above the smallest shops. TrueScope is $20 per full user a month, or $5 for a field contributor. Prices change. Check the vendor before you buy.

Questions small contractors ask

Is TrueScope a Procore alternative for subcontractors?

Yes for the sub’s own work: schedule, daily logs, drawings, crew check-in, takeoff, and billing. It does not replace a general contractor’s Procore project if the contract says you must use theirs.

Why is Procore hard to justify for a small crew?

The product and the quote assume construction volume and a project office. A small contractor pays for controls they will not staff, then still needs software for the shop and the service trucks.

Can field crews use it on a phone?

Yes. Logs, photos, and messages are mobile, and they cache on the device when the site connection fails.

$20 a full user. Every module.

Field contributors are $5. Mac, phone, and offline included.
